Fabrication for a Power Plant Application

Portfolio003wThis Shan-Rod brand 4100 series valve was manufactured for a customer in the power plant industry to construct the carbon steel bubble-tight butterfly valve. This is considered our “top of the line” valve that utilizes all of our manufacturing capabilities and offers class VI leakage (bubble tight), our lowest leakage available. A number of manufacturing processes were employed during the construction of this valve, with all work done on site at our state of the art facility. The valve body, disc, flanges and shaft were fabricated using processes including plasma cutting, rolling, and forming, carried out on our CAD/CAM Hi-Def Plasma Burning Station, Plate roll, and Hydraulic Shear machine. We also employed horizontal boring and vertical turning machining for seat and grooves. Exhaustive testing for quality and accuracy were carried out including radiography of body seam NDE testing, and seat leakage testing.

After construction, this butterfly valve was subjected to protective finishing processes, first prepping the valve’s surface with SSPC-SP6, then 2-3 mils of primer coat of Carboline Carbozinc 11 was applied, and a top coat of 3-5 mils Carboline Thermaline 4000 Aluminum. Outer Diameter (OD) finished dimension is 54″, with thicknesses from 3/4″ to 1-1/4″, and weight of 4,057 lbs. This valve is meant to handle steam, and has a design temperature of 302°F and design pressure of 0.5 psig with a full vacuum shut off and weld-ends duct connection. The actuator is a Pneumatic Scotch-Yoke with manual override. The seat is an Ev-O-Seal®, a specialized non-toxic, non-corrosive, waterproof insulating material. 2 valves were developed for this customer in 12 weeks, delivered to Ontario Canada.

This valve was constructed upholding the most stringent industry standards including ASME Section V (NDE), ASME B16.25, and ANSI/FCI 70-2-2006. Our valves are made to meet the toughest conditions, with an evolving product line to meet today’s industrial needs.
